Rance Lane

West Coast painter of motion and myth, Rance Lane is drawn to moments of virtuoso movement and the “go for it” suspense of Gen X life. Whether it’s a surfer carving mid-line, a majestic beast in motion, or a surreal, quirky narrative, Lane wants the viewer to feel the action instantly through bold brushwork, color, and composition. Beyond the canvas, he brings his paintings to life through music and film—directing and performing in music videos that translate his visual worlds into motion and sound.

“I’ve lived inside movement my entire life. My mother was a Rockette at Radio City Music Hall, and I grew up around dance and discipline. I went on to become a Junior Olympic and NCAA Pac-10 Champion gymnast, then a world-traveling surfer, and later a professional dog and horse behaviorist. All of it shaped how I see the world—through motion, energy, and connection. My work pulls from that lived experience—real movement, real emotion, placed into both grounded and surreal environments, often with a wink toward the absurd.”
