I began painting with encaustics, an ancient beeswax medium, in 2002. I draw from two passions: inspiring writings and the ocean. The flow and richness, as well as the layered discoveries within the work, are wonderfully enthralling to me. Layer upon layer of encaustic paint is applied to a wood canvas, encaustic means “burning in.” Torches are then used to blend and fuse the layers, creating a painting with natural depth, translucency and a patina finish.
